The Great Wave Entry Room remodel is complete! But before I indulge you with some beautiful blue gorgeousness, I wanted to walk you all through the design.

First: what we started with, it was beige. The sad color did nothing to accentuate the original character of the room, like the crown molding and built-in bookcases. The flooring needed replacement, the room was dark, and the ceilings felt low. (Wait until you see our little ceiling trick!)

The first plan of action was replacing the floors. The subfloors were covered in mold, being our first major hurdle to jump over.

I knew I wanted plenty of moldings and French-inspired pieces paired with some modern elements and our client’s excellent taste in furniture.

The plan was to add some character and drama. What better way than with bold paint and beautiful wallpaper! Being the first room to enter the home, it immediately creates an atmosphere of fun and elegance that sets the tone for the rest of the house. We added panel boxes above and below the chair rail and installed the wallpaper inside the boxes. The moldings and French detail are carried throughout the rest of the house, but more subdued painted white.
To balance off all of the traditional and french inspired furniture, our client chose a more modern light fixture.

So.. are you ready to see it now?

The star of this room was this STUNNING Great Wave Bloom Wallpaper. Milton & King wallpaper.

It is a Japanese Eukiyo-e  inspired design. If you look closely, you will notice the “flowers” are actually waves with little boats inside. The design of this wallpaper is GENIUS.

We complemented the wallpaper with matching blue paint from Sherwin Williams called Santorini Blue.

Our client has an incredible taste in furniture, allowing us to keep most in the room, which added even more to the modern/ Parisian feel of the space.

To address the low ceilings, we added a base cap 6 ” from the crown molding along the perimeter of the ceiling to give an illusion of taller ceilings. It genuinely feels taller in this room!
